but no seriously,
The summer solstice has arrived and boyyyy is it already hot. Since the Winter Solstice, the days have been slowly growing longer, but thanks to spring we are fully awake and can now find the nourishment we need to grow and evolve. The summer solstice is a great reminder that we are all connected to a community. Connected to a moment together. How magical is that? We have to remind ourselves to develop trust and confidence in ourselves. We are alive, renewed, refreshed, and energized from the sun's energy. Our path is set at this point, we just need to nurture it and find purpose within its process. We're also reminded at this time to celebrate the light of the sun, and the light within us (which is coincidentally a book of mine available on amazon). The summer solstice represents the transition from seeds to growth. This is a perfect time to reflect on moments of the past months in your own life. What seeds did you plant that bloomed? What accomplishments have you completed that you feel really proud of? Lastly, it's a reminder that there is hope in the world, light which spreads from all of us so we are each inspired. The days of summer are long, but our spirits want to be outside, moving and exploring, if we can beat the heat! WHY DO WE CALL IT A SOLSTICE? The word 'solstice' comes from the Latin words sol (sun) and sistere (stand). Each solstice corresponds to either the day of the year with the most daylight hours, as in the summer solstice, or the day with the least daylight hours, as in the winter solstice. In each of these events, it can seem that the sun is essentially “standing still” for a time, which is how it earned its name. Of all the times during the year that we celebrate the changing seasons, I think that two of my favorites are autumn and winter, but that doesn't mean summer holds in less significance. One thing that I notice during the summer is that each day can be magical and playful, if you let it. The energy during this time makes it a great time for you to create something new. So, maybe pull out an old manuscript, work on a new project, paint a new canvas, or whatever it is that you feel called to do. Personally, I am working on revising two manuscripts and I can't wait to get them out into the world. Two things that I think will be BIG during this time is: Setting Summer Intentions: Direct your intentions towards patience, nourishment and trust. Create a powerful “I am” mantra that reflects these qualities. Include beginning statements that open you up to receiving the energies available during this time. Examples are “I am ready to receive nourishment and growth” or “I am ready to receive the energy needed to develop trust in my life.” Set your intentions and continually remind yourself of them all summer long. Expressing Gratitude: Expressing gratitude is a good thing to do any day, but especially during a seasonal change. Write gratitude statements for everything that you already possess and everything that you want to come your way. The important thing here is to be grateful even for something that you might not have yet. Through being grateful, we are showing God and telling the universe we trust that our wishes will be fulfilled, and the very act will call in the energy we desire. We, like nature, will start moving inwards and retreating back to ourselves as summer turns to autumn and autumn turns into winter. As some wait patiently for the cooler months, it's important to remember that this is a time where we should be in the present moment and give gratitude towards all things that we have and wish to have, even if we don't already have it. Balancing between now and the next six months, we should stay aware of the things that we want to continue to nourish, get rid of, and seeds that we want to plant in the last part of the year.
