Much like morning routines, nighttime routines are just as important when it comes to wellness and mindfulness regarding mental health and self-care. We often brush things under the rug as a way to forget so that we can continue our day. But just because something is out of sight, doesn't mean it's out of our minds. One of the consequences from brushing things under the rug is the fact that we are adding unwanted stress to our already busy and hectic lives and stress can manifest in a lot of ways such as insomnia and difficulty going to sleep.
I know I have experienced this more times than I would like to admit. While my anxiety medications can seem to be an easy solution, it's not a desirable long-term solution. Medication, though needed, isn't a natural remedy for a better state of mindfulness. Sometimes, I like to try bedtime affirmations because it helps me to feel like I am in control, which I am and so are you. This might not make any sense to you if you have never dealt with anxiety or counting all the ways, the wrong approach to something could affect your day or the impact that the stress from it has on our bodies. taking the wrong approach to managing the stress of everyday life can have similar impacts on our bodies. This year, I have decided to focus on things that I can control such as thinking about what kind of foods I put into my body and almost completely cutting out my alcohol consumption. With this, I am hoping this will help to cure nights of sleeplessness, unwanted thoughts, and worrying to the point of exhaustion. I've never been a night owl, but as someone who has religiously kept a 10pm bed time, I now try to go to bed earlier on the nights that I can to help calm my mind before just forcing myself to sleep. What Are Bedtime Affirmations? Bedtime affirmations are just like morning affirmations. They can be in the form of quotes, mantras, and short or long phrases. They help to put your mind in a positive mental state and change your perspective, which is what is needed some nights before bed. Not only do they help to eliminate your negative thoughts, but it helps to take away the worries that you have so that you can get a healthy full night of sleep. While I don't have the answers to if affirmations actually work, what I do know is that when I have brought them into my life, good and positive vibrations are present. Our dreams are often related to things we hold on to, the paths that wait for us, and things and people of our past. The one thing that I can give you to hold onto is, if you go to bed in a positive state of mind, there's a good chance that you will be better rested and carry that positive outlook into a new day. There are several affirmations you can turn to, but I will put some below so that you can read them when you're ready and if you feel like you want to try to create some yourself. My body is relaxed. I did my best today and I welcome a new day. My dreams are only a place for faith and positivity. I’ll enjoy a full night of sleep and will wake up recharged in mind and body. Calming thoughts and optimism will fill my dreams. I am in a safe space to sleep. I am forgiven. I am worthy of tomorrow. My eyes and body are tired, and I deserve a good night's sleep. I am grateful for this bed. I will let go of today, give it to God, and go to sleep. I will keep my heart open to any positive messages that await me in my dreams tonight. I have done my best today and great things will come after a good night's sleep. I choose sleep, rest, peace, and relaxation over stress and worry. Right now, I choose to stop worrying, stressing, and focusing on negativity. I can focus better at work, for myself, and those around me, with a good night's sleep. I deserve love, peace, and rest. I am allowed to learn and grow every day.
