I’m a north Georgia native, living now between the state lines of Georgia and South Carolina and I’m also an advocate for mental health awareness and the lgbt+ community. I studied billing and coding in college for the full-time job that I have now at a dermatology office. In addition to working full-time at a dermatology office, I’m also a self-published author, having published my first book in the winter of 2018 called, Her Colored Scars. Since then, I have published two additional self-published books. One of which being, The Light Within Us, which lead to my need to lean more into the grace, words and love of Christ.
Under the name, The Spiritual Brunette, you will find most things outside of my writing: faith, yoga, diary entries, and health and fitness, but it is under my Instagram user name, jbpoetryco, that you will find most of my raw, real, relatable and gut wrenching poem pieces and free writing. If social media isn't your thing, that's okay. You can find all of my books on Amazon. Through my writing, I try to be a voice for those that are still trying to find their voice in the world or for those that have hidden their voice behind fear. I’m passionate about poetry, bible studying, learning how to take care of my body and soul without any pressure from peers or family. I spend most of my days navigating my thoughts, anxiety, exercising, weight, self-acceptance and confidence. This is a new journey for me, one that people tell me will be full of raw honesty and moments of being unapologetic myself. I can't wait to share with you this graceful but messy transition. Regardless of if you connect with me on social media or here, you will be reading and exploring themes of love, loss, healing, spirituality, health and wellness. When I'm not writing you can find me taking a walk in nature, dipping my feet into the ocean, sipping on a honey-lavender iced coffee, or spending time with my friends and family.
